Llansawel has had its own Rugby Club for more than thirty years. There is a game nearly every week in the season, alternating home and away. The club’s official headquarters is The Black Lion Hotel in the village centre. The playing field is just on the edge of the village, toward Llanybydder, and is used by the club by the kind permission of Mr Edryd Davies, Glynmarch Farm. There are purpose-built showers and changing rooms on the field, which is also often used by the club for fund-raising events.
It is a great achievement for so small a community to maintain a club capable of taking part in the West Wales Rugby Union League.
